Really getting into this now

Have set up my iGoogle page and aded some extras, RSS feeds, currency converter, world clocks etc. I am also organising an event using Facebook as the guests are nearly all young and keep up with their sites so it is an easy way to update them with the details. I just 'Facebook' them!!

They are quite amused. I am hoping to work out how to send them a map, a restaurant review and a menu when I get to that point, might be a bit ambitious for me though.

Noticed that The 2009 ALIA Library Technician's Conference website is up and running today and it particularly includes a link to Facebook to encourage communication with Lib Techs met a previous conferences. Very clever I thought. I already have a WA Tech and a NT Tech on mine so might be able to add some more.

Facebook again and Google everything!

Checked my Facebook and one of my family had written on my wall!! I reminded them that graffiti is illegal. Looked at Google and didn't realise there is so much there. I found some pictures which I saved and I do think that Google Docs could be very useful for us in the library. Could also be handy for personal docs but not sure of the security, maybe not. Looked at the Maps and found the street in England where I was born and hopefully have saved it as default. I even signed up for a Gmail account. Getting the hang of this all finally.

Facebook

Created myself a Facebook entry so I can keep up with what the young things I know are up to, not really my sort of thing though. Can't see a place in our library for it but you never know and at least I know what it is now.

Google reader

Have had a play with Google reader and added some feeds, then it began to look messy but was able to organise categories into folders so felt as if I was in control for a change.

Will have to keep an eye out for more things to add, and then work out how to add them from the web. Very short on instructions these sites, one has to just fiddle and/or use help!

This really could be a very time-saving addition to our useful tools.

LibraryThing

Tried LibraryThing last week and became quite excited about it. I really think I could use this personally and we could try using it for the library to get feed back on popular texts and maybe suggestions for books to buy (funds being available of course!) I dream!!!

I belong to a book club and we might be able to use it especially for people who may be absent from meetings who could add there thoughts on the monthly book.

Very promising.
